Progress in research on mechanism of saponins in treating osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease caused by variety of factors, which highly prevalent in the elderly population and mainly characterized articular cartilage degeneration surrounding bone regeneration, with clinical manifestations repeated swelling, pain, stiffness deformity at later stage. OA chronic that gives patients their relatives many life inconveniences economic pressures. According to practicability effectiveness treatment patients, advantages traditional Chinese medicine stand out. At present, active ingredients are divided into saponins, alkaloids polyphenols, saponins main medicine. This paper summarizes research results progress icariin, ginsenoside Rg1, astragaloside IV, clematis other osteoarthritis.
